Dyeing fibres is exciting! Ensuring your colours are rich and saturated takes some careful prep work. Removing excess dirt and oils is an essential step in ensuring a good result.
The Wash and Dye fibre shampoo helps clean and condition fibres and helps with the uptake of dye. The colour protection component of the formula helps reduce fading in completed projects.
Because Wash and Dye Fibre Shampoo is formulated from cosmetic grade ingredients, it is safer for your hands, as well as the environment.
Formulated and bottled by folks who know a thing or two about hair and shampoo at Namaste Farms in sunny California.
A staple supply for students taking Redding Method dyeing classes.
Directions for Use
Wool and other animal protein fibres have quite a lot of variation between species, individual animals, diet, and even the environment they live in.
Fibres with more oil and dirt need more shampoo, fibres with less oil and dirt, need far less. This product is designed as a shampoo, it must be worked into the fibres in order to work.
If your fibres are super dirty or contain large amounts of oil or heavy grease consider pre-washing with Dirty Rotten Bastard Fibre Shampoo.
As with any fibre washing, do not change temperatures or handle the fibres in an aggressive fashion – this can lead to substantial felting and damage to the fibres.
Fibre processing is messy! Please ensure you have an appropriate work area and attire.
- Wet the fibre before application with medium-hot water
- Squeeze out excess water
- Gently massage the shampoo into the fibres
- Leave the shampoo on for 5 to 15 minutes
- Rinse in medium-hot water
Check that the rinse water is draining relatively clean, if not repeat the process. Once fibres are clean, transfer to your dye pot and begin the dyeing process.
